Was the light on prior to you changing the pads?
You need to have the code(s) checked and diagnosed.
Pads won't cause an ABS light and pads won't fix an ABS light.
If the light is on, the ABS module is seeing something in the ABS system that isn't working properly.
My ABS light came on right after a brake job as well. The brakes worked fine. The ABS part of the braking system worked okay as well when I tested it out to see if I would skid sideways - I didn't.
It stayed on for about a year and then just as mysteriously went out. I spoke to several people about it and they told me that the sending device for the ABS must have gotten some dirt in it. The light did originally go on when I jammed the brakes when it was cold and snowy out. I have a 1994 Jeep 4WD. The light went out several years ago and hasn't come back on since.
It could be something, it could be nothing.
When doing the pads, the tech will generally squeeze back the caliper pistons and all the old fluid will flow backwards toward the master cylinder. It also passes through the ABS actuator.
Dirty fluid is most likely to blame. Have a brake fluid flush done.
I crack the bleeders open when pushing back the caliper pistons.
Saves all this mess. Learned the hard way on a Prius.
I still agree with Captain Rich's statement that the OP needs to have the light diagnosed. I originally asked if the light had been on prior to changing the pads, in the incident the OP left something disconnected or was under the assumption that changing the pads would remedy the light.
Get a scan done, find out what codes are stored and post them here. Everyone can then point you in the right direction.
All good points!
Hey, I tried to do the greenie, darn reputation got in the way again. :(
