I became an American citizen without knowing I had to speak to the German Consulate about retaining my German passport. What do you suggest I do as my passport will expire in a month. Please help.

I guess why, if you are now an American Citizen why not merely get a US passport

Germany doesn't recognize dual citizenship, so if you are applying for new German passport, you may have to choose either to maintain US citizenship or German citizenship.
