    Hi, galle45!

Are you sure of the spelling of everything concerning the steamer? I ask because I'm not finding any information about it.

    Thanks!

It could be Maratanza, but the dates don't match.I have a receipt for a second check issued to L P Babcock in the amount of $100.00 for Union Bank New York dated Dec 10 1810. Issuing bank was Samuel Smith & Co. New Orleans. The back is endorsed, Paul Babcock acting signing? Officer usa, care Commander Stevens, US Steamer Marataugu or Maratanza or ? Also signed by Sam Smith
