Help - I have an older house (100 years) and we just replaced a toilet with a new one and now it sits 4 3/4" from the wall. The rough-in is at 15" but if we put a toilet there it will butt up against the sink cabinet. Are there any toilets where the toilet does not have to be centered over the rough-in -- so we can position it closer to the wall?

I don't understand this sentence : "The rough-in is at 15" but if we put a toilet there it will butt up against the sink cabinet"... What does the cabinet has to do with toilet installation ?

1. When you measure from the back wall to the center of the toilet opening, what's the distance ?
2. What kind / brand of toilet did you buy ?
3. Is the new toilet 10", 12" or 14" Rough-In ?

Milo had a problem with one part of the complaint and I don't understand this,

No! If you have 15 inches between the wall anjhd the center of the hole then you need to install a 2" offset toilet flange, see image) to bring the toilet back to the wall. Good luck and thank you for rating my answer. Tom

- The distance from the wall to the center of the toilet is 15"
- It is a Kohler Memoir Toilet
- The new toilet is a 12" rough-in

The cabinet matters because it's a really small bathroom with out much wiggle room. It used to be a coat closet.

Any ideas?

I'll ask the plumber about an offset flange. Thanks.

VDwilde: The best you can do is to get toilet with 14" rough in. That will bring you about 3/4"-1" away from the wall.

These toilets are usually special order toilets and most of the manufacturers make them.

Sure, off set flange is fine but you will have to open up the floor... If you are on raised foundation, it is easy to do. If you are on slab, it is lot of mess.
