    My mom was adopted
    Hello.
My mother was adopted as a newborn in valdosta ga in 1947.
She now resides in macclenny Florida. My whole life I wanted to know where I came from my mom wasn't ready until now to search. I;am grown now and want to help her. She knows very little only what her name would have been at birth and what hospital she was born in. I called and all I could find out was that all the records were in atlanta ga now and that it was a closed adoption, my question is how do we get the records released without going to ga to get them for free and is there a wedb sight where families separated by adoption can logg on and find each other maybe her mom is searching for her.
    Thanks.:)

It's VERY seldom that you can get the records open, and IMPOSSIBLE to get them opened for free. Give up on that idea, it's not going to happen.

What your mother can do--and SHE has to do it, because you have no standing in this--is contact the courthouse in the county where the adoption took place and see if she can place a letter with them, in case her birthfamily is looking for her. She can do the same thing with the adoption agency, if she knows it.

If her adoptive parents are still alive, she needs to get as much information as possible from them.

Adoption.com, adoption.org, and ISSR have reunion pages that she can register on to have a possible reunion.

Having waited 60 years, it's possible that she may not find anything, though.

You will not even get them if you come to GA, if it was a closed adoption, the records are not available to you

Check the city newspapers for about the two weeks after the birth to see if there was info about the child being born.
