My honda accord manual and third party accord manual both state the cooling relay for the heating air conditioning fan is located on the dash fuse box. I have looked at the fuse box several times and can't find any of the three relays that are supposed to be mounted on the box. Do I need to remove the whole left kick plate to see and test the relay, or possibly remove the fuse box to look on it's back side? This is my wife's car and I will be going through he--- if it's not fixed soon. ( did I mention the fan is not working and all the fuses are OK.)

Any pointers on this problem, locations, etc. will be greatly appreciated.

Most relays and/or link boxes are in the engine bay area near a fender wall or near the battery, check there. I can't assure you of this as I am not familiar with Hondas but it is true of Nissans.

Thanks for the hint, on the honda there are two fuse boxes, one in the engine compartment and a second behind the left drivers side kick plate, ( under the hood). I pulled the whole kick plate instead of just the fuse box door and low and behold way up on the top of the box were the missing relays. The fan relay is the same model as two of the relays under the hood so I swapped the fan relay with one of them and tested the windows still opened and closed. This prove the relay was OK. (the relay is very difficult to pull and reinstall as the clutch arms are about 3 inches away from them and although I have fairly small hands it took me a good ten minutes of fiddling around to finally seat the relay and get the leverage to push it in.

I ran a ground wire to the negative terminal of the battery and plugged it into the plug going to the fan, this bypassed the fan resistor and simulated the hi-speed position of the fan speed switch. No spinning, I also measured the 12 volts to the connector feeding the fan and it was fine. I looks like the (shudder ) fan is bad. I have followed the fan removal instructions and am at the point where the unit it is mounted in is supposed to drop out from behind the dash, naturally it won't come out, the only easy thing on this car is filling the gas tank.

It is Sunday and I am going to take the day off and try and stop thinking about it. Hopefully I will resolve this on Monday.

Sounds like it is the fan that needs to be replaced as you indicated,
Do you have a Haynes or Chilton manual to reference ?

I have the Hayes manual and checked out a clinton manual from the library, unfortunately the clinton book is for CR-V and Civic models not the Accord. I did notice many of the pictures and even the layout of the chapters were identical in both publications. Unfortunately in this case the electrical side is different, ( main fan fuse in the civic is 40 amps vice 30 amps in the accord), and different mounting for the blower unit.

Will update you after I get this critter fixed.

I Finally got the blower unit out from behind the dash. Had to remove the bolts under two vinal covered plugs on the right end of the dash, then pull the bottom of the dash out as far as it would go, then a little farther (cracking noises were scarry), then it could be wiggled, pulled and muscled out.

Removing the motor was child's play after the last few days of feeling my way through incomplete instructions from Hayes manual. But as chief George said in the Outlaw Josie Wales, "we will endever to persivier".

I pulled the motor apart and found one of the brushes was gone and the other only about a 32 of an inch thick. This job has been too much of a pain in that well known spot to try rebuilding the motor.

Going with an after market job $165.00 at our friendly NAPA store.

I am new here. I am a retired engineer, and I have solved several problems on my cars and my neighbor's cars. I would like to try to help anyone who has had similar problems. My specialties are body wiring, electrical, brakes, and air conditioning.

I fixed a blower motor on a neighbors 88 Honda Accord. I did not have to remove the motor, as the bottom of the motor is assessible under and behind the glove box. I removed the bottom of the motor by removing two bolts. The motor cap that came off contained both brushes and it was obvious both brushes were worn totally away at 150,000 miles. I went to my local hardware store and bought two similar brushes for $12. I had to rework them a little to get them to fit, but after completion the motor ran fine, and has been running for over a year. It took me about one hour.

My heater blower in my 92 accord will work one week but not the next. What could be the problem? And could I fix it myself?

I have a 1992 honda accord {autm} and my heat is blowing cold the heat want come on

doug78johnson, the heater core likely needs to be flushed out. Reverse flushing is best to remove corrosion and crud. This is a good time to drain the cooling system and refill with a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and distilled water. Fill the system, until coolant comes out of the opened bleeder bolt--very important. Change the coolant every 2 years or 30,000 miles, whichever comes first.
