The democracy had the people involved with free and frequent elections and the republic the people had very little part of it. Also the concept the framers favored is the republic . Democracy was defined as mobs with no standards with leaders praying on the emotions of the people and republic as citizens coming together to pass laws and to select leaders.
Not a bad stab. In a democracy, the citizens have a more direct involvement in enacting laws and electing executives. In a republic, citizens elect legislators who then enact laws and manage the government.
