    Reissue 1099
I took an IRA payout at maturity. I was rolling it over to another IRA, different company. The check came in December and we promptly mailed to the other company. Near the end of December this check came back to me, torn in half, from the Postal Service stateing that the check had been caught in the automatic cancelling machine.. By the time we were issued another check it was in January of 2009. The 1099 we received from the company showing the withdrawel was for 2008 year. Should the company amend the 1099 since we didn't get it until 2009?

As long as you rolled the money over with the 60-day period required, you need not get a modified 1099-R, because the 1099-R, if porperly coded, shows a rollover.

Now, if it does NOT show the rollover code, you need to file Form 5329 to claim the rollover exception.
