    Hi, cherylho!

I seem to have had some reasonably good success using the following site. Sanskrit Dictionary for Spoken Sanskrit I do wish that we had a designated expert here in translating words, names and phrases into Sanskrit. However, every once in awhile, there are a couple of people that show up who really know their stuff about translating written names, words and sentences from other languages into the written Sanskrit. Hopefully, someone like that will come along and notice your post.

You may have to try the site above in the different ways that are available and maybe also try some things that are suggested on it in order for you to be successful.

There is also another site that you could try. It would be the following one. Free Online Translations to Sanskrit, Hindi & Marathi for Tattoos, Names & Sentences

I think that the guy that runs it is the same one that comes around here, now and then, to answer very finely concerning questions like the one that you have.

It's my understanding, that there is also a way to contact people on either site to get help.

If you're wanting this information for something that's going to be permanent, such as a tattoo, then I would suggest that you get more than one person's opinion as far as a translation is concerned in order to be sure that the translation is correct.

    Thanks!

Thanks for your reply. I'd like to ask, what is the difference between सफलता and the one u mentioned, यश?

Looking forward in hearing from u. thanks!

सफलता literally translates to the state of bearing fruits i.e. getting the fruit or reward for the work done or fruitfulness.

    यश: directly translates to success.

drkpp has got it completely wrong. I live in India and know Hindi and Sanskrit very well.

    सफलता means success
    यश: means fame.

Please validate further, but I can assure you यश: literal translation is fame.

For some reason, when I copied the Hindi words, they came up as garbled. Anyway I will try differently:

    Safalta - means success
    Yash: means fame.

Both these words are of basically Sanskrit origin where they have the meaning that I mentioned above.
In Hindi, they have the meaning you mentioned.
One has to bear in mind that though some words are common in Sanskrit and Hindi, the context in which they are used is not same.
Another common word for success is सिद्धि
