Structural soundproofing between 1st and 2nd stories
I have a brick veneer house with chipboard flooring between the first and second story. There is a "granny" flat on the ground floor. It was built in 1980. The flooring has been filled with foam and the ceiling of the ground floor flat was lined with asbestos for fire rating. The first floor has carpet and kitchen carpet to deaden the noise. However when in the ground floor flat you can hear the people walking around above you.
I am going to renovate the house and replace kitchen cupboards etc. What can be done structurally to soundproof the noise from above i.e. the footsteps to the "granny" flat.
