    The product of a number and 2 is 20 less than the product of the number and -3

    Set this up using an unknown variable for the number you're trying to find - let's call this unknown value "x.". Now, when you say "the product of a number and 2" that means 2x, and "20 less than the product of the number and -3" means (-3)x-20. These two things are equal, so:

    2x = (-3)x-20

    Now solve for x.
