What should I do with court apearance summon?
My car was involved car accident on 12/6/08. I wasn't in the car at the moment, my friend was driving my car. It wasn't big accident, no damage my car at all, but an old lady was hurt by car door, she was taken to hospital & discharged. She filed law suit against me (I'm the owner of this car) & my friend (was a driver). I have auto insurance & my insurance is taking care of this. But I just got court appearance summon on door today, there was no appointed date, just saying within 20 days after the service of this summons. What should I do with this? Should I go to courthouse anytime I can within 20days? Or I don't have to go. Please help me. Thanks.

    You need to
1 notify your insurance company at once, since they may want to appear, she may be sueing for 1 million dollars you don't know, and if she is sueing for more than the max of your insurance policy you owe the difference.

    2. you need to get an attorney ( not insurance company) to watch out for yourself interest
    3. You need to find out when you are to appear,

The Summons to Appear should have some sort of information in it as to date and time. If there is no information like that, contact the Clerk's Office and ask them for this information. Give a copy of the Summons to Appear to your insurance company.
