Ok I don't have much info on this but here we go, I remember the main character was a guy on some planet that met a girl. (if this helps they met in some kind of slave camp or something like an egg I really don't know), I'm pretty sure there was an army of robots and some portal and the most vivid thing I can remember is This big fungus that talks to the guy and girl and he is actually called "the fungus". At one point he actually swallows both of them for some reason but doesn't kill them. I was really young when I saw it so I can't explain more but any advice would help a lot.

Was this a cartoon or did it use actual human characters?
