Social Security not taken out of taxes?
Help! Caveat: I have always had an accountant do our family taxes every year.
This year, my new hubby decided he would take over. When looking at my W-2 forms, he noticed that I did not have any $ taken out for Social Security (that space was blank). Weird, but I must admit I never paid attention before. I looked back at all my W-2s and it looks like the Soc Security box has *always* been blank. I have worked at my job for 8 years now. What is happening? Should I have had money taken out this whole time? And wouldn't our accountant have said anything? Am I in trouble?
I am very confused and could use advice!

If it is W2 (that is he is an employee), then it is employer's problem to withhold SS taxes. You file your tax return without worrying about this.

If you work for a state or city agency, like a school system, it is likely that your employment unit "opted out" of Social Security several decades ago. That is why no Social Security was withheld, because the oney is going into a state or city-run pension plan instead of Social Security.
