    What Tax forms to file F1-OPT
    Hello,

    Iam indian and Single.I am on my F1 until August 2008 in Alabama. My OPT started on October 2008, I started working in tennesse,I got relocation paid. Can someone please help me with these questions?

    1. I think I should file 1040NR-EZ and 8843, is that correct?
    2. If that is correct, under what schedule should I file 1040NR?
    3. What form should I file for the relocation reimbursed?
    4. Should I file any form for state taxes in tennesse?
    5. What forms should I file for ssn and medicare taxes?


    If possible can someone explain to me how to do it? This is the first time I am doing taxes and I want to do it myself. Any detail provided will be appreciated. Thank you.

    On F1/OPT you are exempt from residency for 5-years. You must file non-resident tax return and Form 8843.

    Your income is not subject to FICA taxes but you must pay federal and state income taxes. On your OPT income you will get deduction based on tax treaty between the U.S. and your country. Since you are from India, as per tax treaty, you will claim standard deduction of $5,450 instead of itemized deduction.

    Thank you for the information. Can you please tell me what tax forms should I fill?:confused:

    I got relocation paid by my company, should I fill any additional form?

    You will file Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ and 8843.
    About relocation: how did the company report it? Is is from Alabama to Tennessee? Read Your U.S. Tax Return: Filing Status for Married

    I have the following amounts in the Box of 12 of my W2 form and the corresponding explanations for the codes.


    C 5.52 Taxable cost of group-term life insurance over $50,000(included in boxes 1, 3(up to social security wage base), and 5)

    D 207.70 Elective deferrals to section 401(k) cash of deferred arrangement. Also includes deferrals under a SIMPLE retirement account tat is part
    Of a section 401(k) arrangement

    P 129.26 Excludable moving expense reimbursements paid directly to employee (not included in boxes 1, 3, or 5)


    I am Non-resident alien with my F1 visa and on my OPT.

    I know that I need to fill form 3903 for the amount mentioned as P, Can you please tell me what are the forms I need to fill for the amounts mentioned as C and D.

    There is NO requirement to submit additional forms for Codes C or D on the Form W-2.
