    physics motion in two dimensions
    A bomber flying in level flight at 200 m/s drops a 500kg bomb from an altitude of 3000m. a. find the horizontal and vertical components of the velocity and B.how far has it travelled horizontally after release when it strikes.

    I know you're given :
    V: 200m/s
    y: 3000m
    a: -9.8m/s^2

    I've tried everything but I can't figure out how to break it down into x and y components if I'm not given an angle. Any help is appreciated.

    Treat the horizontal and vertical components independently. For the vertical, you know the bomb drops with no initial vertical velocity component and with an acceleration of -9.8 m/s^2. So from a height of 3000m you can calculate the time it takes to hit the ground. Call this time T. For the horizontal, given no air friction, the bomb moves at a constant 200 m/s horizontally with no deceleration, so you can calculat how far it moves in the horizontal direction during time T.
