I need help printing double sided from an excel file.

Okay, I don't understand your request.

Duplexing is controlled by the printer's driver and the application. The application has the last word so to speak.

If your printer is equipped with a duplexer and the driver knows it, then you should be set for automatic duplexing.

If the printer does not have a duplexer, then set the printer for manual duplexing and print your document.

If you could give me a better description of your problems I could be of more assistance.

My boss has a 7410 and states that he is able to print double sided w/a PDF but can not figure out how to print double sided from excel. Not sure if that makes any more sense than my first question. I'm not IT savy. :confused:

Does the HP 7410 have a built in duplexer?

If it does, then when he selects the print option, there should be an option on the print set-up window to allow duplexing.

When I get a minute, I'll take a look at the HP page for the 7420.

Please stand-by if you have nothing else to do.

He says it does. Wouldn't the fact that he can duplex a PDF mean yes?

From what I see in the user's guide, there does not seem to be an option for duplexing.

So that would mean that your boss would have to print using the Manual paper feed. After each seet is printed, he will haver to manually turn the page over and reinsert it into the manual sheet feeder and print the next page.

Print from a software application
Most print settings are automatically handled by the software application you are
printing from or by HP ColorSmart technology. You need to change the settings
manually only when you change print quality, print on specific types of paper or
transparency film, or use special features.

To print from the software application you used to create your document
(Windows users)
1 Make sure you have paper loaded in the input tray.
2 On the File menu in your software application, click Print.
3 Select the HP all-in-one as the printer.
4 If you need to change settings, click the button that opens the Properties dialog
box.

Depending on your software application, this button might be called Properties,
Options, Printer Setup, or Printer.
5 Select the appropriate options for your print job by using the features available in
the Paper/Quality, Finishing, Effects, Basics, and Color tabs.
Tip You can easily print your job with a set of default settings based on the type
of job you want to print. On the Printing Shortcuts tab, click a type of print
task in the What do you want to do? list. The default settings for that type of
print task are set, and summarized on the Printing Shortcuts tab. If
necessary, you can adjust the settings here, or you can make your changes
on the other tabs in the Properties dialog box.
6 Click OK to close the Properties dialog box.
7 Click Print or OK to begin printing.

Print from your computer

In order for the printer to automatically duplex, the printer has to be able to turn the page over and re-insert it into the print path.

The way this normally works is that the application would send page 2 to the print path. The printer would print the page and then using rollers re feed the page back into the print path to image page 1.

If the printer does not have a designed paper turn-a-round path, it cannot physically duplex.

In that case, each page must be printed, then stopped, turned over and put into the paper path again to receive the second side.

Low end All in one ink jet printers are just not designed that way. It would cost too much, given the price they are sold for.

I did some more searching and discovered that HP has a "Two sided printing accessory" for this printer.

If that accessory is installed on your printer then yes, he should be able to print dupexed pages.

I would suggest that your boss look at the print setup page from excel. Look for a radio button for two sided printing or duplexing.
