Trying to sue, but can't find the person?
I am trying to sue my ex-roommate for unpaid rent. One day she packed up her stuff and left and I can't find her now. How do I take her to court if I don't know her new address? I have her phone number and she sent me a letter recently from a P.O. Box.

Hire someone to track her, do you know where she works or more ?

Do you have her cell phone number or her house number? A home number can be backtraced:

    Hello t:

In SOME states, you are allowed to serve the defendant by publication. If your state allows this kind of service, that's what I'd do.

Course, if you win, then you're going to have to collect. If you don't know where she is, or where she banks, or where she works, a judgment won't do you any good.

Right on about the publication. In regards to not knowing any personal information about the defendant, my state requires a defendant to complete and return a financial disclosure statement within 21 days of the judgment; they have to list any personal property and any type of income. Failure to do so allows the plaintiff to file for contempt of court on the defendant. But that's here, I don't know where the OP is from.
