Hey,
I would like to lay ceramic tile in my kitchen where I have wide pine floors. The water that has dripped on the floor when transferring dishes from the sink to the dishwasher has made some of the edges of the floor raised up some. It's not a large area I want to do, only about 4' wide by about 12' long. I don't want to tear up the pine floors but rather lay over it. What's the best type of subflooring I would need to put down first?

If you're willing to take a chance, AND if the boards are not cupped too much, AND if raising the floor an inch or so isn't a problem, then you can keep your pine plank floor. The right thing to do though is to remove them, then build the floor from there depending on your subfloor.

If you are willing to take a chance; re-screw the planks. Install either 3/8" or probably 1/2" plywood. Then either 1/4" tile backer or you could us a product called Ditra instead. Then tile away.
