    I'm running windows vista. How can I get the vol icon back at the bottom right hand side of my tool bar ? It just disappeard one day when I started up

    In Control Panel there isw a Sounds icon. In there is a checkbox to display the icon.

    Try this
    -Right Click on Taskbar > Properties > Notification Area tab > under system icons, check Volume.

    My apologies. I wasn't on a Vista machine when I answered. Just checked and this has changed under Vista.
