Thanks in advance for taking my question.

Let me level set. I am a homeowner not a contractor and thus my experience is fairly limited.

I am attempting to replace two digital MapleChase 9610 thermostats that are connected to a two zone (mini zone Temp-A-Trol) panel. I called The zoning hotline of Honeywell and they told me how to connect the thermostats and that they were compatible I connected it as directed by the help desk person and nothing works. Calling for heat does not function for either zone from neither of the replaced thermostats.

This is the old configuration

Maple Chase wires

Red - RC
Jumper to RH
White to W
Yellow to Y
Blue to B
Orange to O
Green to G

The TH8000 does not have a separate connector for the O and the B.

The technical expert told me to connect

Red to RC or RH
White and Orange to W (combined)
Blue and Yellow to Y
Green to G

And to make sure I set the thermostat to standard 1 cool / 1 heat.

Well I did and it does not work. Am I doing something wrong?

Please post pic of new thermostats and of the zone control board(at connections).

If your zone control requires a separate B & O wire, then the VP stat may not be compatible. We just went through a similar question although, I don't believe the same zoning panel.

Choices:

1. A compatible stat
2. Create both B&O connections with a 24 VAC DPDT relay since B is the opposite state of O, it's relatively easy to do.
3. The Honeywell method of creating a B&O could work too.

In any event a C terminal which allows 24 VAC between R & C at all times needs to be added.

Did you connect Rh jumpered to Rc and connected to R on the new stat?

You probably don't have any power to operate the stat.

The connections outlined by Honeywell might work, except the VP stat REQUIRES a common terminal. This allows the furnace /zone control to power the stat. Common can be added too.

According to White Rodgers the one below will work no problem.

Thanks for the quick responses. I am attaching the pictures of how I was told to connect the Tstat and the mini zone panel. When I call for heat, I have to do it under the "Cool" option which leads me to believe the connections are backwards. In other words, I call for AC and get Heat.

I hate to bring the Tstats back to the store. They already told me that returns for used Tstats are not allowed. That's the reason why I call honeywell zoning hotline from as I was standing in front of the sales person and the heating and refrigeration supply store.

Anyway pardon my ignorance on the subject.

Yep. Paired with wrong wire.

B is energized with heat. O is energized with cool.
W is energized with heat. Y is energized with cool,

Although the operation of O/B can be configured, parameter 190

Make sure you set the parameters correctly. The VP series in not plug-n-play so to speak.

But, I think your still missing a (C) terminal.

Just got to know, what type of heating system do you have. Im assuming it is forced air with zone controls.

Yes It is Forced Hot Air with Zones.

KISS, What do I need to do? Pair the White and the Blue into the (W) and Orange Yellow into the (Y). I am not sure if that is what you mean.

Parameter 0190 is set to default value of "0" O/B terminals control valve in cooling. The value of "1" is O/B terminals control valve in cooling heating. Are you suggesting that it should be set to "1"?

What should I do about the missing cable?

Since your forced air, parameter 190 has no effect. It only works for heat pumps. Note that the assignments are W or O/B. This means the wire switch: Pair the White and the Blue into the (W) and Orange Yellow into the (Y)

The 9610 manual isn't helpful either. Probably you have it set to gas and O and B toggle depending on the mode of the stat which makes that stat and ones like it unique.

Looks like (C) is not required with the Vision Pro. With (C), the AA battieries would only be used for backup and if your batteries died, the tstat would still function.

If you have an extra unused wire running to the stats and would like to pursue, we can after it's working with batteries.

That did it KISS, I am very grateful for the help. I tested both the heat and cooling and it works. I was so afraid that I was going to have to eat the cost for the Tstats.

Back in the Winter, you helped me configure the wiring for the thermostat TH8110U1003 as indicated in the thread. Well heating worked for both zones during the winter but cooling only works for zone 1 thermostat in the first floor. The second floor thermostat only has three wires red, white and yellow which I have connected to RH (with jumper to RC), W and Y. I am attaching pictures as well. I would greatly appreciate if you could take a second look at the wiring pics. I checked all the config parameters on both tstats and they match.
