    Earned Income Credit
I cannot claim my son as my dependent child but I can claim him as my dependent relative. Does this qualify me for the EIC? I'm confused as to whether a qualifying relative possibly entitles the taxpayer to the EIC or if it is just dependent children.

I live in Florida. My gross income was $21475 and my adjusted income was $6475. I have only the one dependent (my son) who does not meet the requirements for dependent child but does meet the requirements for dependent relative.

If it makes a difference my son turned 19 in March 2008. He made way under $3500 for the year and is not a full time student.

Sounds to me like he can claim for his own EIC in which case I don't think you could claim him too.

You can claim him as a dependent, but you CANNOT claim the Earned Income Credit with him as a qualifying child.

    Sorry!
