    Heat strips not working
How can I tell if my heat strips are working?

    Stratmando

If the temperature rises, it is working.
Contactors can fail, as well as control voltage from thermostat, Element can open up.
If voltage is present, and an Amprobe shows no current, it is open.

I test them by setting the thermostat to the emergency mode (heat pump system) and using a clamp-type ammeter to assure current flow through the power wiring to each element. Then, I disable power supply to outdoor unit and return to normal heating mode, repeat ammeter test. Caution must be exercised, as you would be dealing with high voltage in a small space if you attempted this.
