Unknown title from mid-late 80's
Please help me find the name of a movie from the mid to late 80's. I don't remember exactly what it was about, but I am pretty sure it was in the Sci-Fi or mystery genre. It starred a young man and girl in their late teens. The young man I believe worked on cars and was more of a loner, and the girl in the pic was more of an intellectual, nerdy type. I am pretty sure she wore glasses. They had a sort of love-hate relationship, but of course ended up together. I recall that the movie centered on some type of mystery, possibly alien encounter or some alien object. I just can't remember the specifics. I saw it when I was a teen and would love to see it again. Thanks for any help you can give!
