    Cutting into asphalt
I am looking at installing snow melt into my asphalt driveway using pex syte tubing. I have 2 questions.

    1. Since there are various turns, am I better off using a jack hammer or a concrete saw? I own a concrete saw but would have to buy a jack hammer.

    2. Is there any issue with replacing the cut out asphalt with concrete? I would guess I am cutting about 4 inch lines through my driveway. It will be ugly but I expect to resurface the entire driveway afterwards.

A saw is definitely the way to go with asphalt.

As for refilling with concrete: Filling it with cold patch will be much easier and less expensive... but I'd be more concerned with verifying whether the system will be just as effective whether buried in concrete or asphalt.

For bigger jobs like this that I know I want to do myself but am unsure on some of the details, I like to call for estimates from contractors and ask them the questions while they're looking at it.

Thanks for your reply. I do want to call in for estimates because I may want the whole thing pulled out and replaced with concrete. Thanks for your advice.
