Im trying to add a overhead light in a closet with a switch
Hi, my question is this... I have a closet that is in need of a overhead light. There is no power coming in to the closet. However, there is an outlet outside of the closet with in 3 feet. I need to gain power from the plug to install the overhead light with a swith(not a pull chain) in order to light up the closet. What would be the correct wiring for this dillemma.
Ps. This is how I think it should be. Get your feed from the receptacle to your switch box. Then perform a switch leg from the swith to the light in order to power up the light. But if this is correct how should the wiring in side the switchbox be properly put together. And also, the wiring inside the receptacle. Im pretty sure I understand how to do this, I would just like a second opinion. Thanks in advance, joeelctric

Joe, you've basically got it right.
Take the feed from the receptacle box up to the switch box, and from there up to the light.

Be sure you use a fully enclosed light fixture (NO open light bulbs!) and put it in the proper location. NEC 410.8 covers this.
