    Disability benefits for my son
    Hello,

I just gave birth to my son and I have asked my ex (the father) who gets disability to apply for him. He said he needs copies of his birth certificate and his social security number. He lives in Florida I live in New Mexico and I thought that the SSI administration didn't except copies of those documents? Is this true? Also he said he needed my Social Security number and I feel uncomfortable giving it to him do I have to in order to get my son his benefits?

    Thank you

No, he does need to provide the SSA with the children's SS no etc..
But not yours. You will need to go to the nearest SSA office and sign to receive benefits on behalf of your son. This will be coordinated with the office of child support in your state who will then adjust the amount based on income etc... I had answered a similar post tonight... you may want to read it. Good luck,
    Mark
