Hi I was wondering about a current rental situation of ours. We are leaving a Florida lease early due to a financial situation and are moving back to California. I want to know if our landlord can file a suit against us if we are in another state? My husband is Military however the move does not involve his job. We have given the landlord 30 days notice. The lease is a contract with a specific end date, you can't decide to end it without expecting to pay a penalty.

In most states there are laws saying the landlord must make an effort to rent the apartment to someone new but you could also put an ad in the paper yourself to advertise an apartment for rent. You are normally going to be responsble for the rent till the end of the lease.
