Well, as you can see I like this boy that is 16 and I don't know if it is legal for me to date him. He says it is but I want to know whether it is true or not. :o

It would be illegal for him to have a sexual relationship with you.

Perhaps by a relationship with you he meant he could not as he would expect it to be a sexual one which as stated would mean he is breaking the law.

I guess the answer would come down to local law as to where you live.

I do not believe it is illegal for you to be dating this guy, as the law stands in my own country - but it would be illegal if you two where doing more than just dating.

I really think at 13 you should worry more about your grades then guys.

Sorry hun read it wrong - he said it was legal and yes it is that you can have a relationship with him.

Maybe this is something you should discuss with your parents. Laws vary from state to state and this sounds like an issue they should be involved in, whether you like this boy or not, the differences between 16 and 13 are a lot. I would assume you don't even attend the same school as you would be in 8th grade and he would be in high school... how did you even meet?

I know at 13 it is flattering that someone older likes you, but don't be in such a hurry to grow up.

i meant to say that he said it was illegal. i live in Mitchell,SD and i dont know what the dating laws are. i have good grades when and when im not dating.

I have no idea about the laws in your country I am in the UK - But despite anything I think you should try to forget about dating older guys .

If he said it was illegal, he is making a mature decision to not get involved. Follow his lead and leave it at a crush. You do not need to date this boy.

Tell me if I am wrong but I would think a 16 year old would want more out of a relationship than a 13 year old would.

I have never seen ANY laws that cover difference in ages for dating. So, no it would not be illegal for you two to date. However there are several laws about having a sexual relationship.

But, I suspect he is telling you its illegal to let you down easy. He probably doesn't want to date someone as young as you and is using the legality of it to to get out of it without hurting you.

I strongly suggest you not pursue this.

It is a free country, no? It is not illegal to date him. Just don't overdo it... you know what I mean ;)

But do be careful! Anything suspicious is enough for you to stop and break up!

Did you read the thread. It's the guy who is saying its illegal. Meaning he doesn't want to date her.

I think as long as you two are just dating and not having sexual contact it will be OK, I mean he is 13 years old, what if u get pregnant? He ain't going to want to take care of a baby at 13.

That is quite an age difference when you're a teenager. Maybe it's a good idea if you don't date... have you asked your parents? If its okay for you to date him? B/C at your age parents are the law and that goes for dating as well.

And like mum2five said; why hurry with the dating? You have plenty of time to do that when you get a little older.
