You must limit yourself to only ONE and... maybe... a runner up. ;)
Favorite: Gone with the Wind
This book is a must. Its very different from the movie - I couldn't put it down!
Runner Up: Jude the Obscure
I adore this book - it really makes you think and the ending is quiet surprising.
I like fantacy, and I've only just started to explor my reading ability, but...
First: Harry Potter book 6. (yes yes I know.)
I like to learn about past events that effect now, and this book was very much like that. Also, harry's potions book was super cool.
Second: Children of Hurin. J.R.R. Tolkin
I just liked the character Turin, very well made, and awsome story. Though it does go all over in the beginning.
The portrait of the atrist as a young man by James Joyce
And
The stranger by Albert Camus
Jeremy
The Scarlet Pimpernel :)
My all time favorite is On The Road by Jack Kerouac. George Orwell's Animal Farm is a close second.
The Art of War.
Favorite: Outlander - Diana Gabaldon
Runner up: Fairy Godmother - Mercedes Lackey
Pride and Prejudice
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Runner Up: American Gods.
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand is number one, hands down.
I prefer to read series rather than just stand-alone books, though---so it's hard to narrow down what a runner up would be. I've been spending a lot of time thinking about "Foucault's Pendulum" lately, if that counts.
Current favorite: The Daily Coyote by Shreve Stockton (true story -- NYC woman moves to Wyoming and is given an orphaned coyote pup to raise)
Memoirs of a Geisha.
It almost feels like you are reading poetry.
Runner up... Angelas Ashes.. so very real and intense.
And you?
Memoirs of a Geisha is a good one.
Sorry, can't choose between:
'Palm of the Hand Stories' by Yasunari Kawabata
Or
'An Imaginary Life' by David Malouf
Or
'Iron Earth, Copper Sky' by Yashar Kemal
Or
Any of Anita Desai's stories
Anita Desai - Google Image Search
Their Eyes Were Watching God
Can't think of a runner up right now.
Light in August by William Faulkner, and runner up would be Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón is an amazing book,
Anyone read it?
Favorite: Bless Me Ultima
Runner Up: Wuthering Heights
My favorite: Dinana Gabaldon - Outlander
