I own a 02 nissan altima, 2.5S. It has 88000 miles and have no problems other than the service engine soon came on. I put gas about 3 to 4 days ago, any suggestions if yo encounter same problem. I don't want to take the car to the dealer for charging other than just the problem alone, I speak for experience. Thank you

. Ensure gas cap is tight.

. Attach a code reader to the Data Link Connector, located under the dash, and obtain any codes. It may even indicate a code for the gas cap being loose. Use the code reader to reset the ECM. Many auto part stores will do this for free. Obviously, the code could be for something else.

Check your engine fluid levels first. Your primary concerns are oil level & coolant level. Perhaps taking it to one of the many quick oil change facilities will correct the problem. After all, it does say "Service Engine Soon" which is what they do. They will refill all fluid levels & check other items as a part of their routine. If problems are noticed, you will be advised without having to go through the dealer's fix everything policy.
