I have a friend that has Comcast wireless internet that hasn't worked for 5 months. She has tried changing routers. Comcast said that it's her computer, but it fairly new. A computer guy (she paid him $150) said that her computer was fine. Can I contact Comcast from my computer and try to help her? I think that it's in her modem. I think that somehow her modem got disconnected from her internet. Comcast told her that all the lights did not be to on when she tried to log on, but that can't be true. I think that if I got the model and serial number from her modem and ran a loop and then made sure that her modem was actually registered to her computer, that should solve the problem.
1. How can I check from my computer to see if she is actually getting a loop through comcast and
2. Can I make sure that her modem is registered to her computer properly from my computer?
3. Isn't this the same as if I were sitting in front of her computer since she can't even log on.
4. She can't remember her password, so I'll have to have it reset first. I can use my computer for that, right? Of course with her permission.
5. After that, I can run a loop check with comcast first, then how do I check to make sure that she is getting the signal from the modem to the router to her computer from here?
Is this all possible? Or do I have to actually take my laptop over to her house to check all this? I don't see how that would make a difference if she can't log on anyway.
Thanks,
