Tax Refund (Earlier Year) for L1 Visa Holder
    Hi

I was in US for a brief period Dec 06 - Feb 07 on an L1 visa (some 55 days), working with a NY firm. I have earned close to $ 8000 in this period and have had half the amount (close to $4000 as tax deductions. I did not get to file a tax return for that year as I left the company and came back home, and took a while to get my hands on the W2 form. I have been told that I can claim for a tax refund. I have a US Bank a/c on my name and a SSN. Will be grateful if I can get some info as to

    (1) Can I claim my tax refund & How much refund am I entitled to?

It is surprising how your taxes withheld were $4000. They should be close to $1,500 maximum.

Any way, you need to file tax returns for 2006 and 2007 to get refund. You should get all the federal and state income taxes withheld back.
You will file non-resident tax returns for both the years.
