    Sink vent
My bathroom sink emits an odor after having big remodel. The vent is connected above the trap on the sink side. I think the vent should be downstream of the trap. What's right?

    Hi JKM97:

The AAV must be downstream of the ptrap as in my pictures below.

It can be installed on the vertical or the horizontal, but must be after the ptrap... ;)

Let me know if this is your case or not...

If vent is connected between sink and trap, you have a problem. You are right when you say vent should be located downstream of trap. Look at Marks drawings, and if you could post a pic of your setup, it would really help. If things are the way they seem, you need to get the person who did your plumbing back in and have them fix it. I really want to see some pics of your setup. If vent is taken off before trap, this is no small error. This would be extreme lack of knowledge of plumbing and the person who installed it this way, should not ever do plumbing again... Danger to health.

Hey Lee (MGD77)... I got to agree! I would love to see a picture of this setup! I love pictures of silly mistakes so called plumbers make. Here's a fun pic. Just to add to the mix.. see below.

    I have more... ;)

JKM... any chance you can post pic. Of yours as requested?

    Thank you!

Sorry. The pipe I thought was a vent turned out to be the condensate drain from the air conditioner.

Sorry. It turned out that the pipe I thought was a vent was the condensate line from the air conditioner.

What, I don't see any problem,, structural floor joist are really only for looks, just cut them out and go(plumbing is more important than carpentry)

But really, what the hell were they thinking(most likely not thinking, or not capable of thinking) The general contractors I work with would have hauled me out back and beat me severely, then made my boss pay for extensive repairs(on the house, not me)
