    Child Support Lien
I have a child support lien against me and it is keeping me from buying a home; how can I get this lien off me and I am paying my child support on time and I have not missed a payment since I began paying and I do not intend to stop paying but it is hurting me credit wise because it keep coming up. What can I do to to help my credit and buy a home?

If you have been paying on time, why was the lien filed? Who filed it?

The lien was filed at the original child support hearing; I was not aware that this lien was filed against me until I tried to purchase a home. The mother of the child filed it. I really need to get this lien off if I am paying the child support that I am ordered to pay. We were never married but the lien was placed on me! What do I have to do to get it removed and still pay the child support that I have been ordered to do?

Go back to the court and ask that it be removed.

You should only have a lien if you are in arrearage.

JudyKayTee seem like she knows what she is talking about and because of that I would like to know the precedures to file a removal of the child support lien from the court so that I can move on with my life. What is the time limit on paying before you can ask to have the lien removed if there is one?

I'm still skeptical about this lien. A lien is an encumbrance filed against real property to prevent its sale unless the lien is satisfied.

How, exactly did you find out about this lien, what is it against? You said you found it out when you went to purchase a home, is the lien against your current home?

As to getting it removed, you need to go back to the court that issued it. Ask them what the procedure is for getting it removed. It will vary from court to court.

In some states its an automatic procedure to have a lien placed of property of value. It doesn't stop you from buying a house. The lien should have a value on it besides TBD ( To Be Determined ) If the value is 0 then its just there for someone's protection. You need to check that. Also you need to make sure its an actual child support lien and not a lien from a lawyer because they had won a case against you. i.e. for lawyers fees.
