The Human Dog - Treating a Dog like a Human

That is a wonderful article and so very true. If only people understood this more.

It's not easy to treat a dog like a dog, after all, they're cute, cuddly, lick you, jump up when you get home with their tail wagging madly. It's really hard to think of them as just dogs.

Yes, you can love your pet, but show that love in a way that will fulfill your pets life. A dog is happier when they have a leader, when they have boundaries, a job, and a place in the pack.

The chances of getting a natural alpha leader are very rare, but your dog will take on that role if he's not given any other option. A nervous leader is not a good leader, that can lead to aggression, disobedience and many other behaviour problems.

The human automatically thinks, aww, how cute, he's so protective of me (no, he thinks he rules you) oh, he's just happy to see me (no, he's not respecting your space) oooh, he's kissing me (no he's tasting you, okay, I had to throw in some humor).;)

Bottom line, someone has to be the pack leader, if it's not you then you're asking for trouble.
