    Well I am new here and I hope that you guys can help me out I am going to be putting in a 220v 50 amp outlet and I need to know what size wire I need to use nay help will be greatly appreciated thak you .

    p.s. I am going to be using this outlet primarily for an arc welder thanks

    Usually a 50 amp line will require #6 AWG conductors.

    If the required circuit is only a 240 VAC circuit that you could use #6/2 cable with ground.

    However if the welder is going to need 120 VAC input also, then you must use a #6/3 with ground.

    Now a question for you. Have you read the instructions that came with the welder or verified the information that is on the manufacturer's name plate and gotten the required Voltage inputs and Amperage?

    The input for the welder needs to be single phase 230v 60 cycle and 50 amp at least that is what it says on the welder. Thank you for your help
