    Backsplash or counter top
Which should you install first, a new counter top or backsplash?

Install the counter first. What type of counter and backsplash are you using ?

I'm thinking granite counter and tile backsplash.

That could look great so put your counter in first then tile your back splash and your good to go. GOOD LUCK,AC

Think ahead when grouting between the bottom row of tiles and the countertop. My buddy did a pretty good job, but it doesn't look perfect. I could be wrong, but maybe caulking that last row with the right color caulk MIGHT be a good idea. I'll let someone respond to my comment though.

There is no option, the counter goes in first. ;)

Logan, The counter/wall grout joint is likely to crack because of movement. You should caulk that joint with a caulk of the same color and texture. Every grout maker also has matching caulk.

You should definitely put in the countertop first, and if you are tiling your backsplash, just put some painters tape on the countertop where it meets the wall so it stays clean while you tile and grout. Good luck!

You want to install the new countertops before the backsplash that way you can sit your backsplash down on to your new top.

What if you are doing a beadboard backsplash? I am doing a butcherblock countertop. Should I still do the countertops first?

Unless back splash is attached to counter top, the counter always goes in first.
