Ceiling fan light

The chain pull on ceiling fan will not turn light on

Have you checked the bulbs ? If the bulbs are good then most likely it's the switch that the pull chain controls. Post back with a little more info on your fan and we will see if we can help. GOOD LUCK, AC

I can pull the chain and the lights light up, but when I release the chain the lights go off. I can't see to keep the lights bulbs on. I can hear the click sound when I pull the chanin, like your hear when it is working as it should.

I'm sorry for the errors, this is a new keyboard and not used to it yet.

Im still leaning toward the switch as your culprit. It sounds to me like it turns on but then allows itself to turn back to the off position. You can probably pick one up at your local home center and then it's a probably a pretty straight forward wire up. Just make sure you shut power of to the fan before attemping removal or replacement. What type of fan do you have?

I don't know, it was in the house when we bought it. It has five blades. Would it be easier for me to replace the light fixture or the switch. I really have no clue about this electric stuff! While we are on this subject, we installed a new fan and light in another room last night. The light works, but the fan will not. What did we do wrong here. It took three of us females to hold the darn thing up! There was a white wire in the motor part that hooked up to the light part that really had no place to connect to... so we put black tape on it. Could that be the problem?

Either the light kit or the switch would be fairly easy to replace. On the new fan tell me exactly how you have everything hooked up and what color wires you have both from the ceiling and from the fan.

If your having a hard time describing it maybe you can post a pic of the new fan wiring.

From the ceiling I have the white to the whit, the blue & black to the black. The green is capped, cause there are only two coming from the ciling... no ground. From the motor, the white has a connector that plugs into the white that has it's own connector. Then the blue & black have matching connectors that go together. Then there is that loan white wire that is bare, so I put tape on it. Of course there are other wires, but they are all either capped or connected and the insructions don't say anything about them. Of course these instructions are lacking if you ask me. This fan is an Aloha Breeze.

I don't like just the bare white wire hanging there. Its hard to say without being there to see it but is it possible that this wire not being connected somewhere is a defect. Do the instructions mention the bare white wire ?

What does the other end of the bare white wire go to.

No the instruction say nothing at all about the white bare wire. I would not leave it bare.. so I taped it up. Thanks, for trying.

Our ceiling fan expert might be on later and might have some better ideas. In the meantime you could purchase an identical fan open it up and see if also contains that bare white wire if it doesn't then most likely the original was defective if it does contain the bare white then that wire belongs somewhere. As far as the other fan with the light problem if your not comfortable working on it then maybe sonsult a pro. Please post back if you have abymore questions or if we can help in anyway. Thank you, if the expert has any ideas let me know. It is a bit of a drive to go get a new one and all, so maybe I should wait. And the first one is strange to begin with. It works when it wants to, so I gues it could have a short or the swicth is on its way to being faulty?

Ok, with your non-working switch, is this a switch you just installed, or was it like that when you got there? Did it ever work?

As far as the non-working fan, connect all the white wires together, it should work.
