Smelly washer or something more extensive?
Hi all - I'm new to this post, but have an issue that is driving me crazy and I can't solve it. I need to find out if I need to get a plumber or an appliance repairman. Here's the story - I have a Bosch front loader washing machine, about 1 year old. Long story short, I have learned that front loaders have to be sanitized periodically to prevent mold and smell. That said, we have an odor that we have just started noticing in the last couple of months in the laundry room - we assumed it was from our washer. A friend said that maybe a sock or something had gotten trapped in the seal, or was trapped somewhere in the washer and wad soured - we could not remove the seal, so we called an appliance repairman, who had to reschedule because he says he needs to remove the drum and it's a two man job. This is not going to be cheap, probably over $300.
We have a finished lower level - our house is 3 years old, we are on public sewer, and are on a septic system with an ejector pit in our storage area in the lower level. We were down there tonight watching a movie and I noticed a faint odor - the same that I have smelled in the laundry - and a friend that was with me said that we needed a plumber because it could be coming from our ejector pit and the seal, or something around the seal.
I don't really think that an appliance repairman needs to remove the drum on a fairly new washer - I am thinking we need to call in a plumber first.
We have not had any issues, and our septic system has worked very well since building the house.
Can you help me, or do you need more info? Thanks so much.
