I am adding an upstairs bath and in the process of roughing in the DWV lines. I need to change direction and elevation of drains (see photo). My town uses 2006 National Standard Plumbing Code- which says I can go horiz. To vert. (45 and over) with a long 90 deg. Elbow. It also says I can use a wye AND 45 deg. Elbow to go from vert. to horiz. Does that mean I should not install the long 90 deg. Elbow at 45 deg. As shown (left connection)? Is it preferable/required to have the connection as shown on right connection?

In the interim: your Code talks about two different approaches. You should use long sweep 90 in the 2nd floor ceiling. This transition will be covered up by drywall ( or concrete under slab ) and not accessible. However, if you going to the crawl space, where it will be accessible, use Y and 45 bend with clean out insert at the other end of the Y.

Now I see the photo: Yes, in my area of operation, Code requires Clean Out at the end of each line - as in your photo / connection on the right.

I am leaving an access panel in a closet to get to the cleanout at the end of the line. Everything else will be covered by drywall.
Does the picture help describe my concern?

Any thoughts on connecting to the 3" wye with an elbow turned 45 deg. Like I have it?

Fein: that 90 ell installed sideways in vertical-to-horizontal transition is OK.

Overall, the PVC drains in your photo look professionally done. I would add more straps: one at the clean out Y and one on the upper horizontal pipe before the 90 ell. Otherwise, Good Job..

FYI: when you are going from Horizontal to Vertical you can use sharp 90 ell. We actually can use San T's that has very sharp 90 transition, almost as sharp as vent 90. However, when you go from Vertical to Horizontal than long sweep 90 is required.
