I have an RCA model 32v434t television I'm working on for a friend,it turns off and on randomly. The remote is out of the room. They had a sears guy look at it,He said it was an off/on switch and was going to charge them 300 bucks to replace it. Does this sound right?

Difficult to offer advice without a circuit diagram (schematic). Do you have one for this set?

On/off switch sounds unlikely, but as I said, hard to say without the schematic.

Are you an electronics technician (or engineer)? If not, you're unlikely to be able to fix it, even with a schematic. If it's a modern set, the components will mostly be surface-mount, which are difficult to work on without specialised SMT rework equipment.
