    Vehicle law
Our Quad was stolen 2 years ago. I found out where it is and sent the police there. Because the original police theft report did not have the VIN and we never registered it and cannot find the bill of sale, they will not give it back. The PD ran the vin and it came up with no owner. THe Quad was stolen and the person that stole it is in jail pending a drug and theft crime.
Is there a way that I can get it back?

    Hello l:

Probably not... But, it'll only cost about $50 to file a small claims suit against him. Maybe you'll win, and maybe you'll be able to collect. Even IF you win, you'll only win a money judgment. The court can't order him to give it back.

If you never registered the property, then it's not yours in the state's eyes. They don't have to give you anything.

Can you go back to the person that sold it and try to get a duplicate bill of sale. Bottomline is you need to prove the vehicle is yours.
