    Shiny star over my town
    I live in aurora, Illinois, and I work in Plainfield , but when I drive home over the South West sky I see a very shiny star that always confuses me thinking that it's an airplane, but does not move and does not flash, does any body knows what kind of star it is? It does look like the Lone Star from Texas.

    That's the planet Venus you're seeing. Very bright and steady, about 20 degrees above the horizon after sunset. If we have clear skies next Thursday, January 29, the crescent moon will be very close to it, which will make for a nice pairing. For more info on this week's night sky see:
