Natural gas fired forced air furnace
    Hi

I have this 17 years old forced air gas fired furnace by Olsen. It has started to make humming noise when we turn it on. Does the blower motor need oiling. If anybody knows about it, please reply as how actually acess the motor to oil it or clean it.

    Thanks

Get down and expect to maybe get dirty,, but its not that hard,, find the blower and look for oil ports, most have (thats if your motor has them)little caps that either need to be pulled out or just raised up to squirt oil into them,, usually just takes a few drops, but if you have gone 17 years and have never oiled the motor, it might be to late,, I will add,, most blower motors don`t have a place to oil them

Motors that do have oil ports, need to be oiled every so often. Once the motor starts to make noise, it is usually to late to fix the problem by oiling. Oiling at this point is just a temp fix, if that. I would get ready for motor replacement, or even complete furnace replacement. Average life span of furnaces these days is fifteen to twenty years(give or take). You need to figure out if you want to dump a couple hundred into a dead horse, or go big and get the upgrade. If furnace has workded perfectly for 17 years, I would just replace the motor and you may get another 17. Please let me know what you think.
