Hi, I live in rocky, mountainy terrain. I have at least a 16,000 gallon water leak. I have tried water witching, for the first time, around the outside of the house and the water company has looked. It may be under the concrete slab. Money is an issue, so I could really use the help to figure out how I can find the leak.

If it happens after your water meter, the leak would be in the basement, no? And if it were before the water meter, then wouldn't that be the water company's problem?

First thing you need to do is to establish if the leak is AFTER the meter (under slab) or BEFORE the meter... ok?

For you to know about the leak suggests that it is after the meter and you must have been billed for that 16,000 gallons of water... yes?

To determine if the leak is after the meter you should just need to make sure all fixtures/valves are shut off and then physically look at the water meter. If the needle/arrow (if present) is spinning at the meter then the leak is AFTER the meter and most likely under the concrete slab. I would recommend finding a local leak detecting company and see if they can at least locate the area of the leak under the slab. After the leak is located you may be able to chop out the concrete and repair the pipe yourself.. we can help!

If no leak presents at the meter then most likely the leak is between the meter and the shutoff at the curb and the water company should be helping more than it sounds like they are.

Here is what you need to do, with no water running in the house check your meter, if it is running this indicates that you have a leak, then you need to isolate the leak if it is inside the house or out side, close your main shut off valve to the house and check the meter if is still running this will tell you the leak is out side the house, between the main shut off valve and the meter shut off valve, if no leak with main shut closed and leak with shut off open and no water running you have leak inside your house and you need to fine out, most common leaks are from the toilet tanks fill valves or Flapper valves, open the link below and watch the clips will help hot find the leaks, Good Luck.
