Scars on my child's eyes for the rest of her life
:(When I gave birth to my child in April 2005 I was excited, overjoyed, confused and everything a first time mother would be. I enjoyed her laughing, crying, everything she did. I had one complication at birth with her, and that was I had to have a c-section because I would not dilate, and her cords were wrapped around her neck four times. After about a year and some months I stated noticing my child scratching at her eyes. I didn't think anything of it at first, I thought it was child's play. But she would constently scratch and cry. So one day I took her to the hospital. The doctor came in (I really don't think he wanted to work that day) and said "O IT'S NOTHING DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT, PUT A WARM RAG ON HER EYES". I said OK, because at the same time I'm the mother and he is the doctor. So I went along with it. So when I got home I did as the doctor said and put a rag on her eyes. That didn't help, because she is a baby and they don't like anything on them. A couple months later I noticed bumps appearing all around her eyelids. Now I rushed her to the hospital and explained that I been here before for this same issue and the doctor told me don't worry about it put a rag on it. He NEVER EVEN EXAMINED HER. He assumed he knew what it was. Now she has bumps on her eyelids. They gave me some cream to put on it, and told me she had chalzions (styes). I said OK at least I have a name for what it is now.. Sadly, I put the cream on my baby eyes... and truthfully I don't know whether if it was the cream that was wrong or if it was from her scratching, because after that I noticed the bumps getting bigger, my child's eyes are turning blood shot red, and she is screaming in agaony. I took her to another hospital and they said I don't know what kind of cream they gave your child but, it couldn't have been right. It wouldn't do this. I don't even have the cream to tell the name any more. So after that doctor gave us some other cream she was OK enough for me to take her to her regular doctor. Her doctor said there is nothing more I can do for your child, I have to refer you to a specilist, because whatever it is that first hospital did for her, is irreversible. So we saw a ophthalmologist for her eyes.. He told us the worst news a first time parent could possibly hear. He said I can't GIVE HER ANY CREAM, THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO DO... SHE HAS TO HAVE SURGERY TO CUT THE BUMPS OFF HER EYES. IF NOT SHE WILL LOSE HER EYESIGHT. Right at the moment I almost had to be rushed to the hospital, I almost passed out. I couldn't do anything else but let him do the surgery. So about four weeks later he sent us to a hospital where he performed surgery. He had to cut her eyes lids open and drain out what ever was in there. An sadly, my child will have scars on the top and bottom of her eyelids for the rest of her life, due to the negligence or lack of education from that first doctor we went to.:( Is this a lawsuit negligence or medical malpractice?
