    Distances to the sun
What would be further away? From the sun?A star near the center of the milkyway galaxy or a star on the far side of the milky way galaxy?

Well, the sun is located in an arm of the galaxy, at roughly 2/3 radius of the galaxy disk from the center.
So from a star near the galaxy center to here it is 2/3 radius.
From a star at the far side of the galaxy it is 1 radius + 2/3 radius.

Have a look here : a nice picture of our galaxy with locations!
