    Wood flooring damage
    The question today is, I had a carpenter doing some remodel work on my house (i.e sheetrock,tap&texturing) in the process of doing the tap&texturing he did not put down any
    Floor covering to prevent the excess mud ending up on the floor,which I asked him about and
    He said it would be no problem cleaning up much to my surprise when started to take the mud off the floor it is not only time consuming,but it looks like the floor will not as shiny as
    Was before the work was done.
    Will I be able sand and stain it back to almost new,as scraping to get the mud off is dulling the
    Surface and if I can not refinish it back to almost new is it fair to deduct some money from
    His final payment to replace or refinish floor.
    This man has over 15yrs doing this type of work,thank,s

    Why didn't he clean up the compound. Apparently 15 years wasn't enough time to learn how to cover a hard wood floor which is so easy and he didn't learn the jobs not finished until ALL cleanup is done. I'm a contractor and I would personally have him come back and clean up ALL job mess left. I would also hold money back until the floor was repaired properly.
    Unless there was an agreement on clean up for you to do it he still was responsible for the set up and protection on the floor and your home. Sorry accidents happen but floor cover is easy.
    If its drywall compound it will be easier to use a damp sponge to soften it to actually wipe it up and don't really scrape. If the scraping is only taking off the sheen of the sealer and the stain is in tack just clean real good and reseal those spots. I would use a mimwax spray sealer to feather out the resealed areas. This lets you flare out the sheen and not a exact stop and that may show too much abrupt difference in sheen
