Judy is correct on that one. But... If your "main" job laid you off you could try filing and could quite get a few extra dollars a week but not your full benefit would be paid as you do have another job.
No, When you put in a claim for Unemployment you have to state how many days per week you worked. Since you are still working full time, you would put down 5 days whiohc would negate your claim.
Sorry, Judy, but that's not correct for NY. I have a part-time job in addition to the full time job I was laid off from in Dec. The first week I claimed unemployment I got paid half the weekyly ($405) amount because I had worked 2 days at my p/t job. The second week, I only worked one day so I got 3/4. I'm actually losing out because I don't make as much from the p/t job as I do from one day's unemployment. But if I don't claim the p/t work, then will cancel my claims entirely.
I just completed my claim for the weekending today. The first question they ask is whether you were not available to work on any days. Any day that you work, even partially, you would be considered unavailable. The second question they ask is how many days you did work. So someone working 2 f/t jobs would not be able to file a claim. But you don't have to be completely unemployed.
Years and years ago I filed and was refused on the basis I was still employed. Unfortunately I only remember that I received no benefits and not the rest of the circumstances. This certainly seems more fair than the way my claim was handled!
I was working full time as a proof reader at the time and part time as a researcher, if I have the time frame correct - not that it matters. Full time work dried up for a while.
I stand corrected. Surprised, but corrected.
And I guess I don't have to move to Ohio after all. Twinkie, don't bother getting the spare room ready.
Judy - Scott mapped out the "rules" pretty clearly. I know if you work only part time you can still get some benefits paid. Basically if you lost your part time job, then you are not able to collect period.
And I have no "spare" room to speak of unless you don't mind bunking with the Dinkster in her room(?) or squeezing into Sonny's bedroom with all the tools/toolchests and huge work table. I'm sure she'd like that a lot if you brought your doggies with you as well. You're welcome any time. Don't bother to call, just show up. (That's the Ohio Way).
The Dinkster has her own room. That's my 3rd bedroom that I converted into a huge walk in closet with clothes hanging everywhere and the floor covered in shoes and boots. She has her own bed made of 3 old comforters. She also has 3 million toys as well. She does pay rent with her Doggie Dollars account. I am sure we could arrange some Doggie Dollars with your two doggies as well.
